SALEM POLICE TALK ARMED WOMAN INTO SURRENDERING.
Posted: November 29th, 2011 8:11 PM

At around 4:30 this afternoon Salem Police officers responded to a Disturbance at the Somerset Apartments located in the 2400 block of Broadway Street NE. The initial call was a resident of the apartments had threatened to harm some children by setting fire to them. Subsequent investigation identified the suspect in this case as thirty-five year old Christina Elizabeth Franklin and that Franklin had threatened to stab another apartment complex resident earlier in the day.

Salem Police officers attempted to contact Franklin at her apartment within the complex. Upon the officer's arrival Franklin was standing in front of the window of her apartment brandishing a large butcher knife. Franklin then threatened the officers.

Salem Police officers began to talk with Franklin and continued to talk with her for over ninety minutes before Franklin was taken into custody without incident.

Franklin was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Salem Hospital on a Police Officer Hold of a Mental Person and cited for two counts of Disorderly Conduct.
