August 4th Dancing in the Streets!

DANCING IN THE STREETS AT FIRST WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 4TH
Dance groups come out to celebrate the height of the summer season in downtown Salem Aug. 4th. People are encouraged to join in the fun, bring their dancing shoes or dancing boots and be a part of Dancing in the Street!
Chemeketa Street will be closed between Liberty and High for some fancy foot work with Country Swing dancing to live music by The Oregon Valley Boys. The Boys are creating new fans wherever they play their toe-tapping, genre-bending blend of blues, country, jazz, rock and pop. It’s Western Swing with a twist-The Oregon Valley Boys are proving that real swing is a state of mind.

At 6:15, Indigo Wellness Yoga Downtown and Sherry Coburn team together to celebrate and share Nia. In Nia, people learn to use the body to heal the mind and spirit by joining muscular movement with introspection, intention, visualization, imagery and expressiveness. They will perform at the Mall entrance corner of Liberty and Chemeketa.

City Dance Theatre Performing Company from Salem has been performing all over the Willamette Valley since 1996 and is frequent visitors on First Wednesdays. Their shows are fast paced and family friendly filled with all genres of dance. Entrance to Liberty Plaza.

The Ceili of the Valley Society, formed in 2006 is an Oregon non-profit dedicated to celebrating Irish culture and heritage in Oregon. Their purpose is to educate the public about Irish dance, music, and, culture. They will be sharing and demonstrating cultural dance from 6 to 8 pm. On the corner of State and Liberty.

Premiere Dance Academy will conduct ballet performances in the Reed Opera House Underground. On the First floor, Greek Family dancing will take place at Macedonia Greek Restaurant.

Tango 4 Salem will demonstrate Argentina Tango, also on the corner of Liberty and Court Street at 6:30 pm.

One of the most popular and inspirational dance groups, who have performed on previous First Wednesdays, is The Emerald Point Jewels. This is a senior dance team, who want to keep active and physically fit. They love to perform downtown and will be line dancing and doing the arm chair hula. Also back by popular demand is The Razzle Dazzle Theatrical Group, created in 2006, this group of performers, ages 55 to 95 years, put on 7 shows in the month of May. They entertain with costumes, music, tap, skits, and a whole lot more. They will be located in the Salem Center Mall.
