ACADEMY SQUARE FIRE UPDATE

Investigators with the Salem Police Department; the Salem Fire Department; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms; and the Oregon State Police have concluded processing the scene of the New Year's Eve fire at the Academy Square Mall. The investigation is continuing. The three alarm fire, which was reported just after 11:00 PM on December 31st, occurred in the 1000 block of Lancaster Dr NE.
The Salem Police Department is asking that anyone who either has information regarding the fire, or was near the property at the time the fire started, telephone (503)588-6050.
A cell phone video of the fire that had been posted on Facebook was widely played by numerous news sources. The juveniles involved with the video have been interviewed by detectives and it has been determined they had no involvement in the starting of the fire.
