The Salem Police Department celebrated the retirements Police Records Technicians Jean Duda and Janice Brooten, whose careers spanned a total of over 80 years serving the citizens of our community.
The celebration was held at the Salem Library Anderson Conference Room and was hosted by Salem Police Chief Jerry Moore.
Jean Duda began her career working for the Salem Police Department as a Service Aide in Salem Command Center Operations in May of 1971. She held positions of Communications Specialist II and Communication Shift Supervisor, and also spent time working in the Telephone Reporting Office until transferring to the Records Section in 1997. Jean has been a steady worker who has used minimal sick leave, has worked under two separate management systems with the department and has worked for five different Chiefs of Police. Jean will be spending more time with her family, and will also return to assist the Salem Police Department on a part-time basis in the Records Section.
Janice Brooten began her career working for the Marion County Sheriff's Office as a Clerk Matron in October of 1973. After a short break in service, she became a dispatcher for the Marion County Sheriff's Office in 1976 and worked in that capacity as the Salem Police Department and Marion County Sheriff's Office dispatch centers merged. In 1981 she became a Salem Police employee, spending time working in the Special Operations and Special Investigations Sections before transferring to the Records Section where she finished her career. Janice also worked under two separate records management systems and for four different Chiefs of Police. Janice will spend time with friends and family and will also return to the Salem Police Department on a part-time basis in the Records Section.
Both Janice Brooten and Jean Duda have been long-term team members who are highly valued by the department. Both have been instrumental in the implementation of records systems and procedures, and both have also been very valuable to the department in providing training and coaching to other employees. The Salem Police Department wishes the best to both Jean and Janice.
