Two unidentified suspects passed counterfeit $20 bills at the West Salem Safeway store, 1455 Edgewater St NW, on Wednesday, September 12th, purchasing prepaid Visa cards. The incident is very similar to an attempt that was made two days prior at the Center St. Safeway store. The photos of the suspects are being released to the public in the hope someone will recognize them.

A link to the US Secret Service is attached which lists tips for identifying forged money. In this age of digital scanners and color printers, it has become easier for criminals to make forgeries. It is important for the public to be vigilant in checking their money. Generally the bogus bills do not feel the same as genuine US currency. For additional information, refer to http://www.secretservice.gov/money_detect.shtml

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to contact Detective Kris Wickman at (503)540-2357.
