Fire investigators from the Salem Fire Department have completed their investigation into the origin and cause of a recent apartment fire that occurred on June 12, 2012.
Salem Firefighters responded to the 1700 block of Evergreen Avenue NE at approximately 7:07 pm that evening to multiple reports of smoke and fire at the 28-unit apartment building. Due the size of the fire and the rescue situation, the fire response was quickly upgraded to a 3-alarm fire, bringing additional firefighting crews to the scene.
The fire investigation focused on the apartment of origin, which was located on the first floor of the two-story building. Examination of the area of origin and interviews with occupants and witnesses determined that the most probable cause of the fire was accidental in nature, related to electrical cords and power strips in the area.
Damage estimates are not yet known.
