SALEM POLICE ARREST SUSPECT AFTER SIX HOUR STANDOFF

Incident occurred at 7:29pm, Sat. 5/26/12 at 4624 Eva Ct. NE, Salem.
The suspect involved was incorrectly identified in the initial press release. The suspects correct name is Jeremy Russell DUNHAM, 19 yrs. (dob:03/19/93).
From additional investigation after the arrest of DUNHAM, he was charged with the following:
*Menacing with a weapon - 3 counts (from the original incident of Friday, 05/25/12)
*Initiating a False Report
*Interfering with a Police animal (K9)
*Possession of a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine
During the standoff with DUNHAM, it was determined that DUNHAM had called Salem Police Dispatch reporting a lost child in the South Salem area. Investigators were able to determine that the call was made from DUNHAM's cell phone during the time of the standoff in an attempt to pull Officers away from his residence.
DUNHAM was booked in the Marion Co. Jail at the conclusion of the incident on Eva Ct. NE.

Salem Police arrested Jeremy DUNMAN, 19 yrs (dob: 03/19/93) of 4624 Eva Ct. NE, Salem, at 1:45am, Sun,(5/27/12), after Salem SWAT made an entry into the residence, searching for DUNMAN. Patrol Officers had initially responded to the residence at 7:30pm, Sat. (05/26/12), to follow up on a menacing incident involving a weapon which occurred on Friday (05/25/12). Upon arrival Saturday evening, DUNMAN was determined to be in the residence but refused to contact officers. As Officers had probable cause to arrest DUNMAN, Officers continued attempting to contact DUNMAN via a patrol car PA system. Also during this time, information was learned of several firearms accessible to DUNMAN within the residence. Repeated attempts to contact DUNMAN met with negative results.
Salem SWAT and Negotiators were requested to assist just before 9:00pm. At 1:45am, SWAT with K9 entered the residence to search for DUNMAN. DUNMAN was located hiding underneath a stairwell by the Police K9. DUNMAN was taken into custody and treated for a canine bite.
DUNMAN was transported to Salem Hospital for treatment of the canine bite and will be booked into the Marion County Jail, charged with three counts of Menacing. Additional charges may follow pending further investigation.
Hayesville Rd. NE was re-opened for normal traffic at 2:00am.
