The Salem Fire Department recognized two firefighters in a promotional ceremony at Fire Station #1 on December 12, 2011.
Ian Fitzgerald, who has been with Salem Fire Department since June of 2000, was promoted from the position of Apparatus Operator/Engineer to Captain, effective November 12. Captain Fitzgerald served as a SWAT Medic for more than 7 years and is currently a member of the department's Hazardous Materials Team and a paramedic. He also is a member of the Salem Professional Firefighters Pipes and Drums and is the Sergeant at Arms for Local 314 of the International Association of Firefighters.
Doug Stoops, who joined Salem Fire in May of 2004, was promoted from the rank of Firefighter to Apparatus Operator/Engineer, effective November 12. Engineer Stoops is a member of the department's Water Rescue Team and is also a paramedic.
Both Fitzgerald and Stoops were joined by department members and family in the presentation of their badges by Fire Chief Mike Niblock.
