Salem Teen Library Grand Opening - March 18

A beautiful new Teen Library area, focused on the educational, informational, and entertainment needs of middle and high school-aged students, will open its doors to the public for the first time on the evening of Friday, March 18.

The library's Teen Scene is relocating from the current location adjacent to the Children's Room to a dedicated space in the northwest corner of the lower level. This area has been planned by and for area teens. Renovation has been completed entirely with private donations from the Salem Public Library Foundation, Salem Public Library Advisory Board Trust & Agency Fund, and Friends of the Salem Public Library.

The area is under wraps as shelving, books, and furnishings are installed. The new Teen Library will be revealed during a special Grand Opening beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 18.

Events for the evening include:

5:30 p.m. Dedication and ribbon cutting, beginning in Anderson Rooms A&B

6 p.m. Official opening and first look at the new Teen Library, with cake and punch served

6:30-8:30 p.m. – Grand Opening Party – for teens only! The party features live music from the Seacats, popular winners of the 2009 Salem Public Library Battle of the Bands; electronic and board gaming at areas throughout the lower level; pizza and other snacks; and amazing door prizes.

To kick things off in style, Teen Scene will offer special programs and special hours all during Spring Break. In addition to daily programs and events, Teen Scene will be open during all regular library hours for the first week only.

Beginning Tuesday, March 29, Teen Scene will adopt regular hours of 3-9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 3-6 p.m. Friday; 12-6 p.m. Saturday; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
