SALEM POLICE TO TWEET POLICE CALLS FROM THE DISPATCH CENTER

The Salem Police Crime Prevention Unit will spend some time with dispatchers on Thursday, April 12 providing Twitter followers with a small insight on the calls for service received by the communication center (Willamette Valley Communications Center.
In honor of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, the Crime Prevention Unit will shed some light on the types of calls that come into the center from Salem residents, as well as a few tips and facts about the duties of a police dispatcher.
"These dispatchers work very hard every day to provide assistance to residents in need and we would like to help bring an understanding to the work they do serving our community," said Lt. Dave Okada of the Community Response Section.
Willamette Valley Communications Center is a regional operations center providing public safety dispatching service for 17 police, fire and medical agencies in Marion and Polk counties, of which Salem Police Department is their largest subscriber.
To minimize impacts on follower timelines, staff will tweet between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm. The event offers a brief glimpse into the field of public safety dispatching during the week which recognizes the work of emergency communications personnel.
