SALEM POLICE OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING INCIDENT

11:35pm, Friday, Feb. 10, 2012.

The Officer involved is Ofc. Oscar Zambrano, a six year veteran of the Salem Police Department.

At 7:27pm, Friday, Feb. 10, 2012; Salem Police Patrol Officers responded to a "Suspicious Person" call at the Texaco Gas Station at Commercial St. SE and Hoyt St. SE.

At 7:49pm, an Officer observed the suspect as he ran across Commercial St.SE from the area of Boice St. S., after the report of an armed robbery.

During a foot pursuit between the Officer and the Suspect, gunshots were exchanged and the Suspect was shot.

Officers provided medical aid until Fire and Medics arrived. The suspect was transported to Salem Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The Officer and citizens in the area were not injured.

The identity of the involved Officer and Suspect are being withheld per investigative protocol.

The investigation will be conducted by the Oregon State Police and Marion Co. District Attorney's Office.
