Free family fun at Salem Public Library - week of June 29

Throughout the summer, children and families are invited to enjoy fun, free programs at Salem Public Library. Programs are offered Tuesday-Friday as part of the 2010 "Make a Splash – READ" Summer Reading Club at the Central Library, 585 Liberty St. SE.

 

Events during the week of June 29 include:

 

TERRIFIC TUESDAYS: Jack Corbett Cartooning Workshop at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 29 in Loucks Auditorium at Salem Public Library. Jack Corbett, a local cartoonist, will show how to draw cartoons and help artists develop their own cartooning style. Free and open to school-aged children. Pre-registration is required at the Youth Services Reference Desk in person or by calling 503-588-6088.

 

SUMMER PERFORMERS: Tim Alexander - Master of Marvels at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 30 in Loucks Auditorium at Salem Public Library. Families are invited to enjoy the astonishing magic of Tim Alexander, who combines mystery, comedy, and sleight-of-hand to create uniquely magical experience. Seating is limited. Free tickets are available beginning at 10 a.m. for shows on the same day. Doors open 15 minutes before each show. Tickets are valid only until 10 minutes before performance time.  If seats are not filled at that time, we will open the doors to waiting non-ticket holders. 

 

TEEN SCENE: Funky LP and CD Clock Craft from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 1 in the Children's Activity Room at Salem Public Library. Middle and high school students are invited create cool, functioning wall clocks using old vinyl records or scratched-up CDs provided by the library. Pre-registration is recommended at 503-588-6088.

 

FRIDAY FILM FEST: "Andre," based on the true story of a family who takes in an orphaned newborn seal, at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 2 in Loucks Auditorium at Salem Public Library. Seating is free on a first-come, first-seated basis. Doors open 15 minutes before showtime.

 

Summer Reading Club programs are sponsored by the Friends of Salem Public Library.
