Salem Police Dept. - FRI 4:50am

Salem Police Dept.: The City of Salem emergency operations will continue as long as needed. Emergency responders are scheduled for continuous response until the emergency abates. Except for the Willamette River, all local streams and the Santiam River are currently receding. The Willamette River at Salem is expected to crest late Friday, January 20th approximately two feet above flood stage before receding.
Rain is expected to return and we will be evaluating the potential impact on river levels. Notifications will be issued if additional road closures and/or evacuations are necessary. The non-emergency phone line to report and/or inquire about flood issues (503-540-9015) will remain open until further notice. As always, utilize 911 for emergency situations.
Many streets are still closed. The public should check the street closure information at the City's website (www.cityofsalem.net) before traveling.
The next storm system will arrive Friday/Saturday with moderate to strong winds. With the saturated soil, there may be tree damage and power outages. Residents are advised to contact their electric utility to report power outages. The PGE contact number is 503-399-7717 and Salem Electric is 503-362-3601. Residents are advised to avoid downed power lines and call 911 for emergency response.
The previously listed locations to obtain sandbags will remain open and accessible and staff will be working to make sure adequate supplies are available.
Residents that were asked to evacuate Paradise Island and Lake Shore Village manufactured home parks can now return to their homes.
The public is advised to be cautious as high water can be very deceptive, and the potential for being overcome and/or swept away by moving water remains high. The public should avoid contact with flood water as it may be contaminated.
Be sure to call 911 immediately if you see hazards, and please help watch out for friends and neighbors that may not have the ability to fully care for themselves.
