The Chicken People Have a Website

To have chickens in the yard or not. That's the question facing the Salem City Council as they hear the voices of the public this week. I won't take a side on the great chicken debate here in Salem Oregon but I will say that the pro chicken folks have done a great job mobilizing the community and generating a good discussion on this issue. The first I heard of the debate was on Living Culture where Nate Rafn looked into how Portland allows hens in peoples yards. Since then, it's been all over the papers and on KATU News. They have a google group, facebook page, and a website, salemchickens.com.(I'm not kidding) The Salem city council will be hearing more testimony on this issue Monday night May 4th at 6:30. Will the publicity and public testimony be enough to sway the council to change city ordinances? I guess we'll have to wait and see.
