SALEM POLICE UNVEIL SUPER GLUE FUMING CHAMBER

Attached is a photo from this afternoon's unveiling of the new super glue fuming chamber. It shows Michael and Beverly Carrick cutting the ribbon on the new chamber while Megan Anderson from the Salem Police Crime Lab looks on. The Carricks donated $6,000 to the Salem Police Foundation funding the entire purchase.
For years, the Salem Police Crime Lab used a fish tank for cyanoacrylate (super glue) fuming, a method discovered in the late 1970's to develop fingerprints. The size of the fish tank limited the size and number of items that could be processed. While there were commercially available cyanoacrylate chambers available, they were not cheap.
On February 27, 2013, the Salem Police Foundation held its annual Breakfast with the Chief fundraiser. The foundation identified two priorities this year in its mission to promote community support for the Salem Police Department. One was to replace the fish tank with a commercially manufactured fuming chamber to increase laboratory efficiency. A generous donor, Mr. Michael Carrick, volunteered to purchase it.
The second priority was to purchase trauma kits, which provide life saving tools, to each and every officer that works at the Salem Police Department. That goal has also been met.
The Salem Police Department is proud to invite Mr. Carrick, Salem Police Foundation members, and members of the media to the Salem Police Crime Lab on Thursday, September 26th at 3:00 PM for the unveiling of the new fuming chamber. The lab is located at the Willow Lake facility, 5915 Windsor Island Rd N in Keizer.
