SALEM POLICE INVESTIGATING FATAL SHOOTING

Officers from the Salem Police Department responded to 1510 State St Saturday night at about 5:30 in response to a report that someone had been shot. Daniel Melton, 57 years of age, who resides in the house, was transported by medics to Salem Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Salem Police detectives were called out to conduct the investigation, which is ongoing. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday at 9:00 AM.
The residence is divided into separate living spaces. Other residents at 1510 State St are cooperating with police in the investigation and there are no unaccounted for suspects.
