SALEM POLICE INVESTIGATE BICYCLE VS VEHICLE TRAFFIC CRASH

Loc: Mission St. SE & Airport Rd. SE
Bicyclist: Dustin G. EMBOM, 26 yrs. (dob 02/08/87), transient
Vehicle Driver: Janiel Rae-Ryan, 52 yrs. (dob 11/25/60), Salem
Embom was riding a bicycle southbound on Airport Rd. SE when he approached Mission St. SE. Embom then rode into the intersection in a circular pattern, directly into the path of a Hummer SUV which had been traveling south on Airport Rd. SE. The vehicle driver was identified as Janiel Rae-Ryan of Salem. Rae-Ryan is cooperating with investigators.
Embom sustained life threatening injuries and is currently in a hospital.
The Traffic Control Unit responded and is conducting the crash investigation.
Mission St. SE, between 25th St SE and Airport Rd. SE was closed between 1:00pm and 2:45pm at which time normal traffic flow was restored.
