Posted on FlashAlert: September 19th, 2013 11:00 PM
Just before 7 this evening the Salem Police Department received a call of a suspicious package on the grounds of Highland Elementary School. The caller, who provided a phone number but otherwise refused to identify himself, stated the package was a black colored tool box sitting on top of a green electrical box.
Responding officers recontacted the male caller who again refused to identify himself but stated he was filming the incident. Upon further questioning the caller stated he intended to film the police opening the tool box and place the video on "You Tube" where the video would "go viral".
Based upon the statements and the location of the tool box the Salem Police Bomb Squad responded to the scene to safely identify the tool box and it's contents. The Bomb Squad utilized a robot to determine the tool box was an assembled first aid kit.
At this time it appears the first aid kit was unintentionally left at the scene and the investigation is closed.
