SALEM POLICE ARREST ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT

Case #13-25540 Armed Robbery
Occ time/date: 9:02pm, Saturday, June 29, 2013
Location: 525 Wallace Rd. NW
Victim Business: Dutch Bros. Coffee
At 9:02pm, Sat., 6/29/13; Salem Police Officers responded to an armed robbery that had just occurred at "Dutch Bros. Coffee", 525 Wallace Rd. NW. The suspect, who was wearing a bandana covering his face, climbed in through an open window armed with a small knife, threatening one of the employee's. The suspect then grabbed the cash register containing an undisclosed amount of money and fled on foot. Several citizens observed the robbery and followed the suspect while relaying information to Salem Police Dispatch.
Officers arriving saw the suspect run and jump the fence into the supply yard of "Salem Machine", 665 Murlark NW. A perimeter was set with assistance from a Polk Co. Sheriffs Deputy. A Marion Co. Sheriff's K9 Deputy responded and assisted with the search. The suspect was located hiding in the supply yard by the K9 team at 9:35 hrs., and taken into custody without further incident.
No one was injured during this armed robbery.
The suspect has been identifed as Juan Carlos PALACIO, 24yrs, (dob:05/19/89), of Salem. PALACIO was booked into the Polk Co. Jail on Armed Robbery I, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Menacing, Coercion and Attempted Assault.
