The Salem Police Department responded to the Lucky Fortune Restaurant at about 11:00 PM Thursday in connection with a report of a disturbance and two people being struck by a motor vehicle. It was determined that 37 year old Tom Cheung, and his 68 year old mother Kow Lan Cheung-Lin, had been struck by a red 2007 Ford Focus in the parking lot which fled the scene. Tom Cheung sustained minor injuries; however, Kow Cheung-Lin was transported to Salem Hospital where she was subsequently pronounced dead as a result of her injuries.

The run vehicle was located unoccupied at 39th and Anita NE shortly after the incident. Officers deployed a K-9 to try to track the suspects but were unsuccessful.

Officers from the Traffic Control Unit and the Criminal Investigations Section spent Friday investigating the crime. Based upon that investigation, the two occupants of the hit and run vehicle have been identified. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 26 year old Brandon Paine-Smith of Salem. He is described as a white male, 6'00", 200, with a brown crew cut and blue eyes.

The passenger was identified as 20 year old Kayla Jo Holden of Salem. She is described as a white female, 5'04", 155, brown shoulder length hair and hazel eyes. Her hair was dyed red at the time of the incident.

Paine-Smith has a felony warrant for Parole Violation and Kayla Jo Holden has a felony warrant for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

Anyone with information regarding their whereabouts is asked to call 911.
