Author, former reporter to appear at Salem Public Library

Former Statesman Journal reporter Dana Haynes hit the fiction scene in June with a thriller, "Crashers," delivering a frenetically paced ride-along with the eccentric team called in to investigate after an airliner goes down between Portland and Salem. Riddled with local references and teeming with eye-popping twists, "Crashers" is gaining national attention even as Haynes puts the final touches on its sequel, "Shadow Crashers."

Haynes, who worked in Salem until 2007, will return to talk about his book and his writing life in a event at:

7 p.m. Thursday, September 23

Loucks Auditorium at Salem Public Library, 585 Liberty St. SE

Free and open to the public

Seating on a first-come, first-seated basis

This is a second foray into novel writing for Haynes, who published a three-volume series of cozy mysteries under the pen name Conrad Haynes. Dana spent 20 years in the newsrooms of Oregon newspapers before being named public affairs manager for Portland Community College in 2007. More information about Dana and his work is available at his website, www.dana-haynes.com.

Books will be available for purchase at the event through a partnership with the Willamette Store.
