Salemites!
Do you know what Saturday is?? It's Worldwide Knit in Public Day. Hooray!
Do you knit? Do you crochet? Do you want to learn? Do you want to watch? Make your way to the Salem Saturday Market on June 13 to partake in the fun.
Friends of Salem Saturday Market is co-hosting this great event in conjunction with Salem Area Ravelers. FSSM will have multiple canopies set up for you to sit, knit, and meet crafty new Salemites.
Plus, there will be free patterns for everyone, and a drawing to win a great "knit chicken kit," including 6 skeins of Blue Sky Alpacas Cotton yarn.
So bring your project ~ or borrow supplies (and lessons!) from the Ravelers ~ and a chair if you've got it. It's going to be a great event!
Salem Saturday Market runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the corner of Marion and Summer streets, near the Capitol Mall.
Friends of Salem Saturday Market is a brand-new non-profit group aiming to make SSM a more vibrant community. We seek to connect Salemites with their local farmers, artists and craftsmen. Check out our website and our blog for a listing of classes (BBQ, canning, bike safety, and much more), and for information on how to become a member of this great group!

We had quite a large group of elementary students (both girls and boys) learning how to knit from our librarian. Now we have a parent who comes a few times a week and does a "unit" on both knitting and needlepoint. I'm not sure this new tradition will continue once our librarian Judy (who began it all) retires at the end of the school year, but it's been fun watching the chatty, little community create.
ReplyDeleteAny more info on the canning class? The links aren't coming through within the text. I really want to make some hair-raising salsa with the tomatoes growing outside my kitchen window.
ReplyDeleteYou can see the schedule, plus a description of the classes, here: www.friendsofsalemsaturdaymarket.org/home/events. All preservation classes start at 10 a.m. at the FSSM booth, and will be about one hour long. Pre-registration at our booth (or via email) is a good idea to get a seat at these great free classes!
