The Salem Fire Department is partnering with local Salvation Army efforts in this year's 'Tools for School' drive, an annual program designed to provide families in the Salem/Keizer area with basic school supplies their children need to be adequately equipped for school.

The local 'Tools for School' drive hopes to give backpacks to 2,000 students this year, filled with the basic school supplies to start the school year off right. School supplies needed for area students include backpacks, pens, pencils, colored pencils, crayons, pink erasers, markers, glue sticks, spiral notebooks, dividers, three-ring binders, rulers, scientific calculators, index cards, and loose-leaf paper (college ruled and wide ruled).

The Salem Fire Department is supporting these efforts by placing collection barrels at four fire station locations in the community and will continue to accept school supplies through August 20. The fire station locations include:

* Station #1, 370 Trade Street SE
* Station #5, 1520 Glen Creek Road NW
* Station #6, 2740 25th Street SE
* Station #10, 3611 State Street

Donated school supplies will be distributed to local school children in Marion and Polk Counties by the Salvation Army on August 22, 2013.
