Vehicle vs Pedestrian Traffic Accident (Fatal)
Occurred time/date: 7:11pm, Monday, 02/25/13
Location: 2500 block of Lancaster Dr. NE

At approximately 7:11pm, Mon. 2/25/13, Salem Patrol Officers responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic accident in the 2500 block of Lancaster Dr. NE. On arrival, the pedestrian was determined to be deceased. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Meridith A. Howton, 40 yrs of Salem, who was cooperating with investigators. The pedestrian was not able to be identified at the time.

It appears that the pedestrian, who was dressed in dark clothing, was laying in the right, southbound lane of Lancaster Dr. NE, in a darkened area when struck by the vehicle.

On Tues., 2/26/13, the pedestrian was identified as Richard Russell DUNSMORE, 48 yrs.,
(dob: 06/23/64), transient. Next of kin notifications have been made.

The investigation is on-going by the Traffic Control Unit.
