Photo/sound file: (Van)

Salem Police Detectives have arrested a suspect who picked up a female in his vehicle, drove her to a remote area and threatened her in an attempt to get her to perform sexual acts on him.

The incident occurred on Sunday, October 21 when 50-year old Randy F Fleming approached a lone female as she walked down the street in south Salem. Fleming talked the female into getting into his van with him then drove her to a remote area outside of Salem and threatened her in order to try and get her to perform sexual acts on him. The victim was able to escape by jumping from the moving van and seeking help. Fleming was subsequently contacted and arrested on charges of Kidnap, Robbery, Assault in the Second Degree and Attempted Rape and booked into the Marion County Jail.

Salem Police Detectives are asking that Fleming's photograph not be released in the media at this time, but are asking that photos of his white Dodge Caravan van be released. Detectives believe that he may have been approaching other females in this vehicle, and HIS photo may be necessary to help identify him with any further potential victims. To release his photo at this time could compromise this investigative avenue. Detectives ask that anyone with information relating to Newman and/or his van call Salem Police Detective Sean Kelly at 503-540-2462
