Homeowner gets arrested for assaulting firefighters.

HOMEOWNER GETS ARRESTED FOR ASSAULTING FIREFIGHTERS.

On July 3, 2012 at 1:52 p.m.; the Salem Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at 1756 Plateau St NE. When they arrived, a portion of the house was engulfed in fire. One of the homeowners, Garry Wiltsey (62 yrs.), was inside the residence trying to put the fire out with a garden hose. Firefighters attempted to get Mr. Wiltsey to leave while they could fight the fire, but Mr. Wiltsey refused. Mr. Wiltsey became combative and began to physical assault the firefighters. Mr. Wiltsey was subdued and taken into custody by the Salem Police Department. Mr. Wiltsey was charged with Assault in the 3rd Degree, Interfering with a Firefighter, and Animal Neglect in the 2nd Degree and lodged at the Marion County Correctional Facility. The cause of the fire is yet undetermined. Another resident was at the scene and was interviewed by detectives. The fire investigation is continuing and no other information is available at this time.
