Fire Chief Mike Niblock has selected Captain Steve Brown to be promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief of Training and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) effective March 26, 2012.
Captain Steve Brown was selected for the promotion following an extensive internal recruitment. Chief Mike Niblock made the selection based upon Steve's experience, abilities, and recommendations from the interview panels that were involved in the promotional process. "Steve has a passion for the Fire and Emergency Medical Services, and a strong commitment to the training of the individuals delivering those services. Steve will be a welcome addition to our executive staff," said Chief Niblock. "His leadership and capabilities will be a key part of our department's success," Niblock added.
Deputy Chief Brown began his career with the Salem Fire Department in February of 1995 and he has served in the capacities of firefighter/paramedic, medic evaluator, and Captain, as well as his most recent position as the Emergency Medical Services Coordinator, which he had held since June of 2010. He is a US Army veteran and graduate of Chemeketa Community College.
Steve and his wife Susie live in Salem with their two children, Savannah and Jacob, where they are active with their church and enjoy camping, boating, and riding quads. Steve also has a long history of coaching youth baseball in the community.
A promotional ceremony will be scheduled in the near future.
