Week of July 13 - Salem Public Library programs

Throughout the summer, children and families are invited to enjoy fun, free programs at Salem Public Library. Programs are offered Tuesday-Friday as part of the 2010 "Make a Splash – READ" Summer Reading Club at the Central Library, 585 Liberty St. SE.

 

Events during the week of July 13 include:

 

TERRIFIC TUESDAYS: Splashy Summer Stars Youth Talent Show at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 12 in Loucks Auditorium at Salem Public Library. Talented school-age youth singers, dancers, musicians, magicians, actors and more share the Loucks Auditorium stage for a fun summer event showcasing young Salem-area talent! Auditions have been completed and acts selected, but anyone may attend as a member of the audience. Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis. Information is available at the Youth Services Reference Desk in person or by calling 503-588-6088.

 

SUMMER PERFORMERS: Steve Taylor presents the "Make a Splash – READ Show" at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 14 in Loucks Auditorium at Salem Public Library. Steve Taylor, along with ventriloquist dummy Alli The Croc, will take you on wet and wonderful "Aquatic" adventures. Seating is limited. Free tickets are available beginning at 10 a.m. for shows on the same day. Doors open 15 minutes before each show. Tickets are valid only until 10 minutes before performance time.  If seats are not filled at that time, we will open the doors to waiting non-ticket holders. 

 

TEEN SCENE: "60 Second Showdown" from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 15 in Loucks Auditorium at Salem Public Library. Middle and high school students can participate or hang out in the audience as teen demonstrate extreme skills by competing in simple, yet nerve-wracking games based the NBC game show "Minute to Win It." Pre-registration is recommended at 503-588-6088.

 

FRIDAY FILM FEST: "Happy Feet," from 2006, an animated comedy about an Emperor Penguin who has no song, but is born to dance, at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 16 in Loucks Auditorium at Salem Public Library. Seating is free on a first-come, first-seated basis. Doors open 15 minutes before showtime.

 

Summer Reading Club programs are sponsored by the Friends of Salem Public Library.
