SALEM POLICE INVESTIGATING MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT.

UPDATE:
Mission Street is now reopened but the investigation continues.
Preliminary investigation has determined a pedestrian was crossing Mission Street at the intersection with Hawthorne Avenue. The pedestrian was within a marked crosswalk and was crossing from the south side of the roadway. An eastbound Dodge Dakota truck struck the pedestrian who sustained significant injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation is still continuing. Further information will be released when the next of kin are notified of the death and the details of the accident are fully investigated.
Salem Police officers are on scene of a serious motor vehicle accident on Mission Street just east of Hawthorne Avenue. All eastbound traffic on Mission Street is closed. Westbound traffic between I-5 and Airport Road is reduced to one lane. The closures are expected to be lengthy.
The Salem Police Department Traffic Control Unit is en route to conduct the investigation and further details will be released as they become available through this investigation.
