Local Radio

I've always been a big fan of local radio. So, when I saw this post on the LOVEsalem site it made my day. In Salem we are actually blessed with good radio stations because we pick up broadcasts from Portland as well as Corvallis. At risk of seeming more narcissistic then usual, I decided to post what radio staitons are programed in my car. Maybe this info is useful to someone new to town.

FM1
  1. 92.3 KGON rock and roll out of Portland
  2. 97.1 Charlie, Portland random hits from 80's to today
  3. 97.9 NRQ, Corvallis, maybe Eugene, altenative new rock and 90's grunge
  4. 101.1 KUFO Modern rock out of Portland
  5. 101.9 KINK Soft rock and alternative out of Portland
  6. 106.3 KLOO Clue FM, classic rock out of Corvallis.
FM2
  1. 87.7 TV station simulcast K???
  2. 91.5 OPB/NPR

AM
  1. 620 KPOJ Portland liberal radio
  2. 750 KXL Portland conservative radio

Help me fill in the blanks on my radio and tell me what's on yours.

  1. We're pretty boring - 98% of the time our radio is tuned to 91.5 KOPB. Except for those rare times when we have an urge for music. Then we switch to 101.9 KINK.

  2. You should give 105.9, "The Brew" a try. It's a new classic rock station out of Portland. It's commercial free and plays 10,000 songs in a row! Just another option...

  3. You have to add KBOO to your tuner -- sometimes the inmates take over the asylum and it becomes self-indulgent to the point of being unlistenable -- but other times it's the best thing on the dial.

You can hear Democracy Now! and other great programming (like Blue Monday (blues), the Dharma Wheel (folk), etc.) Now that OPB has become so corporate and is preparing to assimilate KMHD (jazz) into the OPB empire, KBOO is the only place you'll hear a lot of things.
